The day the London whale died...
What a strange day was today... I tool Allegra for a walk and we ended up crossing Albert bridge where the whale seem to have got stuck twice. Sadly the whale has since died. What struck me though was the fact that so many people went to see it... You can see this is as a negative side because of some sort of vouyerism, but as I walked through the hundreds of people on our way home I felt somehow reassured - connected with everyone there. Even in this society we still feel the need to witness, to belong and - at least for me - to be together, to share these events. People were talking with strangers...may be making friends...As I walked through I really felt that we/people love to be part of an event, that wepeople still feel part of one community and that given the opportunity we could strenghten this sense of belonging and community. This is why - I feel - is so important for local governament to foster "free events". Something does not happen much in this country
