Strange things happen in Rome....

I always thought that smoking, coffee and lack of direct sun light were not healthy...

2006 Italia Multimedia

I have been reflecting on a couple of facts that concern Italy in 2006.

My consideration are partisan so I understand if you do not agree with them.

So firstly, we won the general election.

Secondly we won the referendum that was unsettling our constitution - which I like as is.

Thirdly we are in the world cup final (see movies below).

Finally Juventus and Milan may be relegated for match fixing....

Is this just a dream? In the mean time have a look at these and appreciate the different approaches to the goals.

The day the London whale died...

What a strange day was today... I tool Allegra for a walk and we ended up crossing Albert bridge where the whale seem to have got stuck twice. Sadly the whale has since died. What struck me though was the fact that so many people went to see it... You can see this is as a negative side because of some sort of vouyerism, but as I walked through the hundreds of people on our way home I felt somehow reassured - connected with everyone there. Even in this society we still feel the need to witness, to belong and - at least for me - to be together, to share these events. People were talking with strangers...may be making friends...As I walked through I really felt that we/people love to be part of an event, that wepeople still feel part of one community and that given the opportunity we could strenghten this sense of belonging and community. This is why - I feel - is so important for local governament to foster "free events". Something does not happen much in this country  Posted by Picasa

Long time no speak....

But if there is no one there, is that really an issue? If there is no one to read or listen, does something exist? Will time mean anything if there are no readers?

Just needed something to break the ice, it has been a while since my last post and I am glad to say that despite the world seems to be revolving - more or less.

I have decided to try and be more regular in my writings and possibly change the focus/create new blogs on the different areas of my interst.

From a technology perspective I came back from VON in stockholm with a few ideas that I am trying to coagulate. Specifically:

- Is there a role for a "responsible" telco to play in the society? This really stems from some of the nonsense suggesting nobel prices for skype and co... If I look at Linux in Brazil is there anything a telco could do - in a not for profit mode as usual only more not for profit - to support disadvantaged individuals/regions by providing bandwith to learn?

Murder on the media

We are back on track... for a bit.

I can not stop thinking about what young minds think of what they see on TV and on internet with regards to the attack to Falluja. Do they realise that people, innocent people (American or Iraqi) actually die? And that death is the end? Not like in a videogame?

I know that many have discussed the vilification of death on tv - the fact that it makes it "normal", still as I was watching the bodies in the Mosque some in body bags some not, I could not stop thinking and being angry at the fact that "this is it" for them. No more blogs, no more mobile phones no more friends, no family nor love.

And I feel sorry for the soldiers that have to make these killings. Must leave some fairly deep wounds - not as deep as those they killed though.

So the question is - is the ubiquitous coverage good for young minds? Those that will take over eventually?

Very sad in the cyberspace...
